A 14-year-old student arrested in the middle of class for homophobic harassment of another teenager

A 14-year-old high school student was arrested this Monday in France during a class for a case of harassment against another 15-year-old teenager, local media reported this Tuesday.

The victim, who is in the process of gender transition, does not know her accuser, since they do not even go to the same school. However, the homophobic words and incitement to suicide in an Instagram group of which they are members led the authorities to act after receiving a complaint from the student's father.

The arrest occurred in Alfortville (on the southern outskirts of Paris), with prior authorization from the director of the educational center, according to police sources. The speed of the authorities came after a new suicide of a 15-year-old high school student last September, which caused a great commotion throughout the country.

The family of that young man denounced that their repeated complaints to the regional authorities about the harassment suffered by their son did not receive sufficient case.. At one point she even received warnings that she could be sued for slander.

Given the repetition of complaints of lack of action by the regional educational authorities, the Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, called last Monday for “an electroshock at all levels” in the fight against bullying.
