A second volcano erupts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
A second volcano in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) erupted Saturday, a short distance from Nyiragongo, which has been active for a week and has spread panic in the city of Goma, a government spokesman said.
“The Murara volcano, located in an uninhabited part of the Virunga park, erupted today. We are closely monitoring developments,” said Patrick Muyaya, a spokesman for the executive.
The Nyiragongo volcano in Goma erupted on May 22 and has so far caused the death of 32 people and the displacement of tens of thousands of the city’s inhabitants. This Saturday the situation seemed to be calming down and fewer earth tremors were being recorded.
