A woman dies when a Christmas tree falls on her at a market in Belgium
A woman has died and two other people have been injured when a large Christmas tree fell on them this Friday during a storm in Oudenaarde, Belgium, according to the British media The Guardian.
The strong winds caused the 20-meter-high tree that decorated the square to begin to lean, eventually collapsing next to the Christmas market in the city, located east of Brussels.. The location's security cameras documented the events.
The fatal victim was a 63-year-old woman from Oudenaarde, as reported by a spokesperson for the prosecutor of the province of Oost-Vlaanderen to the aforementioned media.
For the moment, the Belgian Police continues to investigate whether the facility complied with security regulations. “The investigation will focus on whether the tree was properly secured and also on the impact of the weather,” the spokesperson said.
