At least 86 dead and a hundred injured by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in northwest China

At least 86 people have died and another 96 have been injured by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred during the early hours of Tuesday in Gansu province, northwest China.

As a result of the earthquake, buildings and infrastructure have suffered damage of varying degrees, causing water, electricity and road cuts, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Rescue services are carrying out search and rescue work, as well as relocating victims and verifying infrastructure. Authorities have raised the national emergency response level to two.
