China, upset with Putin: asks to investigate the "violation of rights" of Chinese who were prohibited from entering Russia
The Chinese Embassy in Moscow has called on the Russian government to investigate “the violation of the rights of Chinese citizens” who were denied entry by the Russian authorities to the country through a border crossing with Kazakhstan.
According to a statement from the Chinese diplomatic mission, the Russian authorities denied entry and canceled the visas of five Chinese tourists who were trying to enter the Eurasian country by car, according to the TASS agency.
From Beijing they denounce that the Russian border authorities detained Chinese citizens, whom they even questioned, for about four hours. Russia, for its part, argued that the visas were not in order.
“The purpose of the trip, indicated in the application for obtaining the visa, did not coincide with the actual situation, which is a violation of the relevant norms of the legislation of the Russian Federation,” the competent Russian authorities have pointed out.
Chinese diplomacy has demanded an “immediate” investigation of what happened and has also asked Russia to “take active measures and maximum efforts to eliminate the negative consequences of this incident.”. Russia regards this as an isolated case.
