ECOWAS activates a regional force in response to a possible intervention in Niger

The block already threatened her after the coup and even gave an ultimatum to the military junta to relinquish power.

The president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, head of ECOWAS, also advocated during his speech to promote dialogue and exhaust “all diplomatic avenues” after the coup in Niger. Likewise, it has ruled that “the political crisis in Niger not only represents a threat to the stability of the nation, but also has far-reaching implications for the entire West African region,” according to the Punch newspaper.

The Nigerian military junta has ignored ECOWAS calls and has even taken steps to consolidate itself, including appointing senior officials. Among its allies are the authorities of Burkina Faso and Mali, who have already warned that a hypothetical military intervention in Niger would mean a “declaration of war” against them as well.
