German Police are convinced Madeleine McCann was murdered in Portugal
German police now say they are convinced Madeleine McCann was murdered in Portugal. According to an exclusive from the British newspaper The Mirror, the Police feared that the suspect Christian Brueckner had transferred Maddie to her native Germany from Praia da Luz, where she disappeared 14 years ago.. But now prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters says officials believe Maddie, now 18, died in Portugal.
This new information comes days after her parents, Kate, 53, and Gerry, 52, said they would never give up hope of finding her.. It was May 3, 2007 when Madeleine McCann disappeared, days before her fourth birthday.
Wolters has said that “concrete evidence” will prove that Brueckner murdered Madeleine, but has always refused to give details.. When asked where he believed she was killed, the prosecutor stated: “In Portugal. I am optimistic that we will solve this case.”
Brueckner, 44, is currently serving seven years in prison for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005.
Last July, German police searched a plot in Hannover where Brueckner, also known as Christian B, used to stay.. It is believed that they were looking for any clue, including computers, that could link him to the case.
The prosecutor explained that “since Christian B. did not live on that plot at the time of Maddie's disappearance, he could not have buried a body there.”
The sex offender was identified by German authorities last June as Maddie's main suspect.. He is expected to be accused of the disappearance of little Maddie this year. His lawyer, Friedrich Fulscher, insists that Brueckner has nothing to do with Madeleine McCann.
Meanwhile, British Police are still treating her disappearance as a missing persons case.
