Joe Biden announces 500 million vaccines to be distributed in a hundred countries in two years
US President Joe Biden announced this Wednesday that he will present a global vaccination strategy to end the covid-19 pandemic on his European tour.
“I have a strategy (on global vaccination), and I will announce it,” Biden said without elaborating to reporters in a brief statement at Andrews airbase, shortly before leaving for the United Kingdom on his first international trip.
After receiving criticism from the international community for not sharing vaccines, Biden reported last month that the US will distribute 80 million vaccines, most of it through COVAX, the World Health Organization (WHO) program.. However, American newspapers such as 'The New York Times' and 'The Washington Post' have reported late this Wednesday that Biden's plan will consist of a total of 500 million vaccines to be distributed among a hundred countries in two years. .
The United States, where the first vaccine against covid-19 was administered in December 2020, currently has more than 53% of its adults fully vaccinated.
Likewise, Biden indicated that the objective of his trip to Europe is to “strengthen the alliance” and “make it clear to Russia and China that” the US and Europe are together.
Biden took off from the Andrews base, on the outskirts of Washington, in the presidential plane shortly before 09:00 local time (14:00 GMT), accompanied by his wife, the first lady, Jill Biden.
On Wednesday night, the US president's plane is scheduled to land in Cornwall (United Kingdom), where tomorrow, Thursday, he will meet with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, before participating, starting on the 11th, in the G7 summit, which will last three days.
Subsequently, Biden will go to Brussels where he will meet with his European partners and, finally, to Geneva (Switzerland) to hold his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 16.
