Multiple tornadoes cause destruction in Oklahoma: at least two dead

A series of tornadoes touched down in various counties in Oklahoma (USA) on Saturday night, resulting in at least two fatalities and significant property damage. Governor Kevin Stitt, a Republican, announced that the state remains on high alert for severe weather, with tornadoes and thunderstorms hitting the area since Friday. He also declared an emergency disaster situation in twelve counties as the extent of the destruction is still being assessed. Furthermore, Stitt expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tornadoes.

Reports confirmed that one tornado swept through western Hughes County, causing damage to multiple buildings in its path. Local emergency services stated that four individuals were injured, three with severe injuries, and one adult and one minor lost their lives.

The town of Sulfur, located south of Oklahoma City and home to 5,000 residents, experienced at least two tornadoes. Another tornado struck the town of Marietta, prompting the Red Cross to establish a shelter to address the immediate needs of the affected individuals.

Additionally, nearly 33,000 people in Oklahoma were left without electricity as of Sunday morning, according to poweroutage.us, a portal monitoring power supply nationwide.

Meanwhile, Friday night’s tornadoes caused widespread destruction in Nebraska and Iowa, including the collapse of a building with numerous occupants and extensive damage to hundreds of homes.
