Police in Poland have found the lifeless bodies of three newborn babies in the basement of a house in the northern province of Pomerania, near the Baltic Sea.

A 20-year-old woman, the mother of the children, has been charged with suspicion of murder, as reported this Saturday by the Prosecutor's Office to the PAP news agency.. The woman's father, a 54-year-old man, has also been arrested.

Police found the first dead newborn in a house in the village of Czerniki, southwest of Gdansk, on Friday afternoon.. A new search of the premises revealed another body in an advanced state of decomposition.

Officers found a third dead baby on Saturday morning, prosecutors said. At the moment, the background to the discoveries is unclear.
