Russia investigates a collision between a military helicopter and a fighter jet in Briansk
Russian Emergency services have started an investigation into a mid-air collision between a military helicopter and a fighter jet in the Bryansk region, some 200 kilometers east of the Belarusian and Ukrainian borders.
According to the Russian media cited by Bloomberg, the incident would have left at least two dead, both members of the military helicopter crew, but so far there is no official confirmation of the number of victims.
The Russian news agency TASS reports, citing Emergencies, that the Mi-8 helicopter lost control due to “engine fire” and ended up crashing in an uninhabited area near the city of Klinsty.
The fighter plane, a Sukhoi Su-34, also ended up crashing into the ground about 10 kilometers from the helicopter.. The status of the pilot is unknown.
The causes of the accident have not yet been established.
