Scandal in Germany: a Nazi song plays at the Oktoberfest and several attendees dance giving the Hitler salute

The Saxony Police are investigating a video that has gone viral on social media in which several attendees at an Oktoberfest party dance to the rhythm of a military march from the Nazi era while performing the fascist salute, prohibited by law in Germany.

The incident occurred last weekend inside a tent where an Oktoberfest was being held, in a small town called Zieschützen, very close to the Polish border, in the federal state of Saxony.

In the video you can hear the chords of Erica, a military march by Nazi composer Herms Niel, which was very popular under Adolf Hitler's regime, especially among members of the Wehrmacht, the armed forces of the Third Reich.

Although this military march is not prohibited in Germany, the images show how several attendees dance to the song while consuming beer and repeatedly raise one arm imitating the Hitler salute, a gesture that is classified as a crime.

“We are investigating the initial suspicion that unconstitutional symbols have been used. State security is involved in the investigation,” a police spokesman told Bild newspaper.

Likewise, the party organizer has distanced himself from the incident: “We clearly distance ourselves from this type of visitors, we just want to celebrate a normal Oktoberfest”. However, the Bild newspaper itself adds that in the future “Wehrmacht music” should not be played at such events either.
