Remnants of Typhoon Doksuri are devastating central and northern China. Several cities are on high alert due to the most intense rains and storms in the last decade in the region, which have left at least 11 dead and 27 missing, according to the latest official balance released Tuesday by local authorities.

Typhoon Doksuri, which made landfall on the coast of the city of Jinjiang in the southeastern province of Fujian on Friday morning, continues its path through the center and north of the country, the state news agency Xinhua reported.

According to the China National Meteorological Center, the average rainfall in Beijing reached 157.8mm, while a maximum rainfall exceeded 538mm in a village in suburban Fangshan district, triggering a landslide that forced to evacuate more than 10,000 residents.

In turn, the Mentougou district of the capital, with average rainfall of 320 mm that caused the overflow of the river that crosses the area, had to evacuate 5,000 of its inhabitants and reported two people killed by the floods this Monday afternoon. .

More than 200 bus lines suspended

The most affected areas in the capital are the western, southern and urban regions, which has led to the evacuation of more than 45,000 people and the suspension of operations of more than 200 bus lines and several train routes in suburban areas.

In Hebei province, meteorological authorities forecast cumulative rainfall is likely to exceed 250mm in some areas.

Affected cities in the region include Zhangjiakou, Chengde, Tangshan, Baoding, Xiong'an New Area, Langfang and Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital.

Specifically, the city of Baoding has been hard hit by powerful flooding, leading to the evacuation of more than 54,890 people.

Typhoon Khanun is coming

Meanwhile, a new typhoon, Khanun, is approaching the Philippines, following a path similar to that of Doksuri.

The typhoon has gained strength as it moves towards the northern waters of the archipelago, raising concerns in a country still reeling from the impact of Typhoon Doksuri, which left at least 25 people dead and more than 300,000 homeless.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Beijing are taking all the necessary measures to protect the population and minimize the damage caused by these heavy rains and storms, given the forecast that the meteorological phenomenon will continue for the next few days in northern China and that the Typhoon Khanun will affect the south of the country in the near future.
