The filmmaker Babak Khorramdin dismembered by his father for being single

An honor killing in Iran. Filmmaker Babak Khorramdin, 47, was murdered by his father after a heated argument with them over his marital status.

The Tehran Criminal Court described the coldness with which the father acted, who dismembered his son and stuffed the remains of the body into garbage bags. He had previously drugged him. The filmmaker’s bachelorhood triggered the event.

Both parents have been arrested after the dismembered body was found in the trash and in a suitcase near the home where they lived. Police found further clues and evidence of the death at the family home.

Khorramdin was an author of self-referential work. Two of his short films, Crevice and Oath to Yasha, are centered on his experience away from Iran. In 2010, a year after graduating with a degree in film from Tehran University, he lived in London.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Jason Brodsky, editor of Iran International TV, has rebuked the international community for more involvement in “honor killings and domestic violence.”

The filmmaker’s is not the first case. “A few days ago, a family murdered one of its members upon discovering he was gay. And a year ago a 14-year-old girl was beheaded by her father.”

“Khorramdin’s horrific death is just the latest example of a long pattern of domestic violence in our country.”
