The new list of the richest in the world in 2023 according to Forbes magazine
The popular economic magazine Forbes has published its most popular edition: the list of the richest people in the United States in this year 2023. The list made public by Forbes echoes, like every year, the great fortunes of the North American country, which have already recovered from the pandemic: the magazine article indicates that among the 400 fortunes they add up to about 4.5 trillion dollars after having lost 500 billion dollars in 2022. Forbes has also expanded the limit to enter the ranking: only fortunes of more than 2.9 billion dollars enter.
Forbes attributes the rise of technology companies in an increasingly interconnected world: half of the growth comes from the recovery of this sector, since eight of its magnates added more than $10 billion to their fortunes.
Technology companies lead the millionaire list
The owners of big technology companies lead the list as the richest men in the United States: the owners of Oracle, Google, Microsoft, Facebook or Dell are at the top of the ranking. Names like Larry Ellison, Larry Page, Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg are joined by the owners of financial companies such as Michael Bloomberg or the president and owner of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett.
Another classic on this list is the undisputed leader of the ranking: the owner of Tesla, SpaceX and the social network the owner of Amazon and The Washington Post, Jeff Bezos, who occupies second position.
Moguls, filmmakers and a former basketball player
Aside from the more or less unknown owners, although present in our lives through ownership or investment in technology, energy, conglomerates or investment funds, there are some well-known names among the richest in the United States.
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his family, for example, are 40th on the list with a fortune of 17 billion. Todd Boehly, current owner of Chelsea FC, is ranked 176 on a list that also includes George Lucas, director and producer of Star Wars, ranked 227.. Shortly after, another filmmaker appears, Steven Spielberg, at number 238, and in one of the last positions on the list, at number 379, appears the legendary former basketball player Michael Jordan, with 3,000 million dollars.
Only 60 women among the 400 richest in the US
The youngest person on the list, at 37 years old, is in 31st place with a fortune of $24 billion: Lukas Walton, one of the owners of the multinational store chain Walmart.. The oldest, 100 years old, is David Murdock, former president of the multinational fruit company Dole Food Company, in position 338 in the ranking. The first woman in the ranking, in 14th place, is Alice Walton, from the family that owns Walmart, with 66.5 billion dollars. Among the 400 richest people in the world, there are only 60 women.
