The Portuguese Judicial Police have reported the dismantling of one of the largest clandestine laboratories for the manufacture of doping substances ever found in the country.. One of the ringleaders is a computer scientist from the Benfica football club.
Two suspects have been arrested in flagrante delicto within the framework of operation Corpus Insanus and have been accused of trafficking in prohibited substances and methods, qualified tax fraud and money laundering, according to the Portuguese newspaper Expreso.
“In the ongoing operation carried out in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, eleven search warrants have been executed, six domiciliary and five non-domiciliary,” the Police explained in a press release.. The two detainees “are the main suspects in the practice of the contemplated crimes.”
The records have made it possible to dismantle a clandestine laboratory for mass production of anabolic substances, “probably the largest identified to date”. In addition, the agents have seized 250,000 euros in cryptocurrencies and four luxury vehicles valued at nearly 300,000 euros.
The laboratory had industrial machinery for the production of anabolics in both oral and injectable formats, their packaging and labeling even with holograms to “have the appearance of certified production from legitimate laboratories.”
