Vodka and hallucinogenic drugs: this is how Russian soldiers combat boredom in Ukraine

The war between Ukraine and Russia, which occurred after the invasion of the first country by Putin's troops, has been stuck for months in a bloody conflict that does not seem to be moving forward.

In addition to the civilian population, soldiers on both sides are subject to this situation and, in particular, the Russians are beginning to suffer anxiety due to inactivity.

As reported by the Mirror in its edition this Sunday, many are turning to hallucinogenic drugs and vodka to cope with the day-to-day life of the conflict.

According to this medium, soldiers smoke salts, which causes hallucinations and generates paranoia. Some are affected more than others by stress and take all the drugs they can, plus vodka.

There are reports that approximately one in 10 soldiers smoked marijuana at the front, while many others use a synthetic drug called alpha-PVP.

“They take drugs out of boredom,” said a soldier quoted by the Mirror, who added: “War is when you are constantly waiting for something, sometimes praying for it to all end,” he says.. Despite the serious effects, “boredom is much worse.”

Right now, both Russia and Ukraine face some uncertainty about the amount of weapons they have for their war efforts in the near future.

Ukraine is five months into a counteroffensive that has depleted Russia's reserves but apparently only hit its frontline defenses, and both countries are planning to replenish their reserves by 2024.
