The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated this Tuesday that the Army has proposed mobilizing 500,000 more soldiers in the context of the war against Russia, although he has made it clear that this proposal is still under debate.
The Ukrainian president indicated in a press conference from the capital, kyiv, that this type of mobilization would cost around 500 billion hryvnias (12.1 million euros) additionally, as reported by the Ukrinform news agency.
“If we talk about an additional mobilization of forces, we have to find a way to propose a plan to demobilize,” he said, adding that other issues should also be on the table, such as military vacations and rotations.
In this sense, he has asked military leaders to understand “all these challenges”. “As the president of Ukraine, as a person who dedicates a lot of his time to finding financial support, I would like the prime minister and the finance minister to understand where the money comes from,” he questioned.
On the other hand, asked about some cases of corruption within Parliament, Zelensky has once again defended that, for now, it is not possible to dissolve the Verkhovna Rada, since elections would have to be held and under martial law in a context of war it would not be possible. They provide the necessary conditions for this.
“For me it is important that we currently fight corruption risks as much as possible and that our partners say that the funds they give us are not at risk,” he said, adding that “law enforcement will definitely do their job.”
Precisely regarding foreign aid packages, mainly from the United States and the European Union, he trusts that his partners will not betray their commitments. “I believe that our partners will not let us down,” he argued.
