The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, has been the subject of complaints before the Justice for actions related to the arms and pharmaceutical industries. The European Ombudsman accused her of “misadministration” and “lack of transparency”. The “New York Times” has taken her to court for “hiding her SMS” with executives of “Big Pharma”. A Belgian activist has open a procedure for corruption. Three complaints have now been filed, formalized with the Belgian Public Ministry, the European Public Prosecutor's Office and the Anti-Fraud Office, for alleged crimes of embezzlement, usurpation of public functions, destruction of official documents and corruption of people who hold official positions; all in relation to the millionaire purchase of covid vaccines by the EU. Also mentioned in the accusation is Stella Kiriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food.
The complaints are limited to the known fact that between August 2020 and November 2021, up to 11 covid vaccine contracts were signed, with eight manufacturers, committing through Advance Purchase Agreements, up to 4,600,000,000 doses for a total expected cost close to at 71,000,000,000 euros. Of the purchased doses, only 1,449,042,265 have been distributed, although only 975,583,358 were inoculated. “The disproportion is such – the complaint maintains – that we are faced with a gap of 470,000,000 doses that the member states have distributed and paid for, but not injected”. It adds that “the contracts were imposed by a flagrant lack of transparency, with damage to the EU of billions of euros.”
Von der Leyen, a great friend of Pedro Sánchez, is going through a bad streak.
