The incidence of Covid-19 rises 150% since the beginning of July and reaches 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants

In week 30/2023 –from July 24 to 30 of this year–, the rate of Covid-19 in Primary Care stands at 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 55 cases reported in the previous week, which which represents an increase of 36%, according to data from the report on Sentinel Surveillance of Acute Respiratory Infection in Primary Care and in Hospitals carried out by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII).

The Ministry of Health stopped publishing its usual report with the indicators of the evolution of the pandemic once the Government approved the Royal Decree that ended the health crisis, on July 4. Therefore, now the data is collected in the aforementioned ISCIII report, which monitors the situation of influenza and other respiratory viruses in Spain, such as the respiratory syncytial virus.

Compared to week 26 –from June 26 to July 2–, the increase in the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 has been 150%, since on that date there were 30 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. From week 24/2023, it decreases progressively until week 27/2023; although from this fluctuations are observed.

In week 30, the hospitalization rate for Covid-19 stands at 0.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (1.25 cases per 100,000 in the previous week).. By age groups, the highest hospitalization rates are observed in the group of those over 79 years of age (4.6 cases per 100,000 h)

The SARS-CoV-2 variants that have circulated in the highest proportion in the last five weeks are XXB (38%) and others (75%), and since the start of the 2022-23 season they have been the BQ.1 variants (32 %), XBB.1.5 (31%), XBB (14%) and BA.5 (9%).
